As a ski sharpener for the Norwegian cross-country national team for more than 15 years, he has been part of the key crew. The group that is not always visible when the medals are handed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Super sander.<\/strong> The collaboration with the national team&#039;s grinder Terje already started in 2014. Superski has always had a close collaboration with the Olympiatoppen. Via the partnership with Bull Ski and Kayak, Superski has offered <em>the national team slip.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Norway won medals in Vancouver (2010), Sochi (2014) and Pyeongchang (2018), it was Fardal who had sharpened the skis. In short, all championship medals have been taken on Terje&#039;s slip while he was on the national team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the super sander&#039;s international career has ended, but Terje is still part of the team in Superski&#039;s workshop. To the delight of old and new customers who want the best possible ski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This season<\/strong> many stand at the starting line in the Vasaloppet, the Holmenkoll march, the Birken - and other touring races - with Terje&#039;s signature slip at the bottom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With your long driving time, Terje, can you reveal any secrets from behind the scenes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Experience, he smiles. Fardal currently works as a carpenter. The professional background is a good match with skiing. Terje has an eye for detail and handmade materials. He surrounds himself with a calmness and a concentration that without words reveals a master in his field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>When it comes to ski soles, I&#039;ve seen it all!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Terje lifts an upcoming race ski up to the ceiling light. Expert hands slide over the sole. The gaze scrutinizes details that are barely visible to outsiders. He finds the magnifying glass, and is reminded for a moment of the jeweler working on a piece of jewelry. Maybe there are some similarities?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Diamonds are forever<\/strong> - It says. But not in the ski workshop. In the long run, small diamonds are actually a consumable here. But no need to worry - this is so slow that there are other parts of the process that cost more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Traces in stone.<\/strong> Grinding of skis takes place in the following way: With the aforementioned diamonds, grooves are cut into a round &quot;stone&quot; with a diameter like a pizza. A kind of modern version of a mill wheel. The stone is composite, not granite. When the ski is sent through the roller, the ski sole gets the structure that is embossed in the stone. Each structure is the result of all previous experiments and tests. This is where experience kicks in with full weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Now I&#039;m doing BSK 7, says Terje.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>What??<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The different grinds have their own designations. BSK simply stands for Bull Ski and Kayak, which is a partner in Superski&#039;s investment in slip and prep. Number 7 is a medium cold all-round slip \u2013 the most popular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The sanding machine<\/strong> weighs one ton and costs one million. The cooling system with cold water keeps the temperature in check, so that the sole is not damaged by the heat from the friction between the ski and the rock. The ski workshop also has many other quirky tools that help get the job done. Perhaps the lifelong interest in sliding and grinding already began on the light track at home in Hafslo. A lot of experience was also gained when he eventually worked at Madshus&#039; factory in the early 1990s (??) Knowledge about ski soles and structure was awakening - and more people began to understand that this was a factor that could be influenced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, an exclusive staff of younger, promising employees in Superski&#039;s workshop gets to share in Fardal&#039;s experience and craftsmanship.
